woman's smile lights up a room

Everything You Are

As we fight every day to remember who we were, the person we once were, and how we used to be, we must always put that same energy into reminding ourselves of what we are, what we can do and everything we've accomplished.

I know it's easier said than done, but constantly bringing up what you could do or who you were before your condition, doesn't make coping any easier. It won't change your current circumstances and we are not the result of what we lost. You are not a negative outcome. Truth is, I don't know what you're living with. I don't know how you make it through your day or the obstacles you've had to overcome. I know nothing about you and my words don't hold much value. And they shouldn't. You are more than what I could possibly fit into words. You are more than the bad situations you've gone through and the negative things you've faced in your life. You are more than a "what could have been."

Everything you are despite IBD

You're so much more than everything you're not. You are beautiful. You are powerful. Your experiences and your voice has the power to change lives. You are unique. Given a challenge not all are built strong enough to face. You are worthy. Worthy of being loved. Worthy of self-love. Worthy of appreciation. You are so much more than your limitations.

Remind yourself of who you are and what you can do

Don't allow yourself to remain trapped in your mind as you are in your body. Remind yourself daily of who you are and what you have the power to be. Your condition may have shaped you, but your beauty will always shine through.

Let your laughter be the light that brightens a room. Even if it's simply your hospital room. Let your smile be so infectious that those around you can't help but to smile back. Let your joy change the lives and outlooks of others who may be facing a similar situation. Allow your voice to be heard. Let your story flow from your mouth to the needy ears of those who may just feel like giving up. Let your power push you when your fatigue tries to get in the way. And when it does. When your body is too tired to carry on and you need a break... Take one... With pride. Know and understand that you deserve it. Whether you're working full time as a computer technician or patient, you matter. You deserve to rest and so much more.

You have faced struggle and have won

Allow yourself to learn from your experiences and use them as a tool, not a crutch. The person you are is so much better than the person you once were. The person you are has faced struggle and won. You have had your back against the wall and still kept fighting. You have made a way for yourself through circumstances some couldn't imagine having to face, yet here you are.

You are beautiful. You are strong. You are confident. You are a survivor. You are loved. You are worthy.

Everything you are.
