  1. "Don't know how am feeling got word back from my MRI and Colonoscopy with results being clear. Suggesting that I have Bile acid malabsorption, also known as bile salt malabsorption or bile acid diarrhea (BAD), is characterized by a number of symptoms, including diarrhea, urgency to defecate, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can be quite severe and significantly impact a person's quality of life. Which could maybe explain my symptoms however they still haven't answered to why my Calprotectin is still high."

    1. I got my gallbladder removed a few years ago. Suggested that my symptoms could be from hid. I've been put on Colesevelam for a trial.

    2. Hi , thanks so much for coming and giving us an update on your MRI and colonoscopy results. I had to do some reading about BAD (I was not familiar with it), but it does sound like it can be a complication from getting the gallbladder removed, unfortunately. I read in this article, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/alphabet-description, that some people with IBD have issues with bile acid malabsorption, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who has BAD will also have IBD. When you got the results were you able to speak with a doctor? Did they indicate why your calprotectin might be high? I'm wondering if BAD itself can cause increased calprotectin levels? How long have you been on the Colesevelam? Did they indicate how long it might take for you to start getting some relief? Please know that this community continues to be here for you as you navigate this diagnosis! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    3. I have appointment with GP on Monday to discuss it all. I also have appointment with the Gastroenterology specialist 9th June to discuss it all aswell. I started the Colesevelam last Friday for a month to see how I get on. But still haven't been given an answer to why my Calprotectin is high.

    4. IF you Google BAM it does mention it can actually be a reason for raised Calprotectin.

    5. it's good to hear you have some appointments coming up where you can go over things with your GP and then a gastro specialist. I hope that they can help you feel supported and get you on the track for getting some relief. Please, if you're comfortable, let us know how it goes on Monday, and how you feel the Calesevelam is going for you. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    6. that's good to know. Hopefully one (or both) of your doctors can confirm whether this is the case for you! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    7. Hi . I just want to check in and see how your appointment went on Monday and if you got any clarification on what is happening. Hope you get some answers and a treatment plan soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    8. not yet got review with the Gastroenterology on 9th June. But thinking my symptoms is maybe because of Bile acid malabsorption, also known as bile salt malabsorption or bile acid diarrhea (BAD), is characterized by a number of symptoms, including diarrhea, urgency to defecate, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can be quite severe and significantly impact a person's quality of life. My last bloods came back with the rheumatic elevated again and border line for diabetes. Am back at work this week.

  2. "struggling to lose weight with IBD and have no energy to do much to help. Was getting more bloods taken today and weight check. I've put on so much with not doing anything am trying but have no energy to do much. I comfort eat."

    1. , my heart goes out to you! I know from your various posts and comments that it has been a challenging time for you lately and I can hear how frustrating it is to have so little energy. I was going to share the IBD and weight gain article with you, but I see that you have commented on it, so I'm guessing you have already read it. Did your doctor talk to you about your concerns today when you had your blood draws / weight check?

I hope some of our members with similar experience and frustration can share with you here because I know you aren't alone! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. Yes just to loose weight as im overweight. Easier said than done.

    3. Hi . I don't know enough about them to say whether one would be a good fit (and I'm not a medical professional), but I do know there is increasing research finding that GLP-1 medications may not only help with weight loss, but also have other benefits for those with IBD. This article talks about some of the findings on GLP-1 meds and IBD: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37081371/. This even more recent research found "GLP-1 analogs are associated with improved outcomes in IBD, specifically in patients with obesity:" https://academic.oup.com/ecco-jcc/article-abstract/19/4/jjae160/7833454?redirectedFrom=fulltext. Again, I can't recommend anything, but want to present the information in case it can help inform further conversations with your doctors. Please know that this community is here for you. 3. "Not a good day. I only got back to work on Thursday and yesterday. Today I feel like crap insides have flared up. I only have my GPS word that I've got IBD still waiting for Gastroenterology to confirm got MRI 7th April. Calprotectin has raised and higher. Been of work so much it's getting to stage that I might be dismissed from my work unless I get a proper diagnosis and get under control. Feeling low, worried, annoyed."

    1. Hi . How you are feeling is certainly understandable. Many here know how difficult the diagnostic process can be. I want to share with you this article on the process, so you can see potential steps to get you there: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/diagnosis. I also want to note that, while you may not have the official diagnosis, your doctors can confirm for your work that you have real issues/symptoms that are being treated as they seek the diagnosis. Also, considering that the MRI was done on April 7th, it seems o.k. for you to press the gastroenterologist's office for results. Hoping you get some answers and relief soon and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  4. "Hi ya my Calprotectin has raised again to 668 after going down to 75 end of January. Test taken again last week and has elevated to 668. Receptionist just called to let me know the my GP has past it on to the Gastroenterology specialist."

    1. Hi , thanks for the update. I was just about to reply to your previous status update (about your colonoscopy results and worry about the MRI) when I saw this newest one. It's good news that the doctor has passed on your Calprotectin level, although it's certainly understandable you're feeling frustrated about the clear colonoscopy. I know that we've had other community members who found they were unable to be diagnosed via colonoscopy (especially if it's Crohn's as that can impact any area of the digestive tract and not just where a colonoscopy can see). I'm including a link with more information about that, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/what-is-crohns-disease.

It's great that your doctor is doing an MRI as that sounds like it might give a better look at what's going on for you! The good news is, it is possible to still have inflammation and not be experiencing a flare. So, while I can't say this will be your experience, it is possible that the imaging will still show inflammation even if you're not in the middle of the flare at the time of the MRI. That being said, please don't hesitate to advocate for yourself if you feel they aren't following up with your symptoms and questions.

I am crossing my fingers that the MRI finally gets you a diagnosis so that you can get on a path of treatment and relief! Please keep us posted.

    2. thank you
