"Don't know how am feeling got word back from my MRI and Colonoscopy with results being clear. Suggesting that I have Bile acid malabsorption, also known as bile salt malabsorption or bile acid diarrhea (BAD), is characterized by a number of symptoms, including diarrhea, urgency to defecate, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can be quite severe and significantly impact a person's quality of life. Which could maybe explain my symptoms however they still haven't answered to why my Calprotectin is still high."

  1. I got my gallbladder removed a few years ago. Suggested that my symptoms could be from hid. I've been put on Colesevelam for a trial.

  2. Hi , thanks so much for coming and giving us an update on your MRI and colonoscopy results. I had to do some reading about BAD (I was not familiar with it), but it does sound like it can be a complication from getting the gallbladder removed, unfortunately. I read in this article, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/alphabet-description, that some people with IBD have issues with bile acid malabsorption, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who has BAD will also have IBD. When you got the results were you able to speak with a doctor? Did they indicate why your calprotectin might be high? I'm wondering if BAD itself can cause increased calprotectin levels? How long have you been on the Colesevelam? Did they indicate how long it might take for you to start getting some relief? Please know that this community continues to be here for you as you navigate this diagnosis! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  3. I have appointment with GP on Monday to discuss it all. I also have appointment with the Gastroenterology specialist 9th June to discuss it all aswell. I started the Colesevelam last Friday for a month to see how I get on. But still haven't been given an answer to why my Calprotectin is high.

  4. IF you Google BAM it does mention it can actually be a reason for raised Calprotectin.

  5. it's good to hear you have some appointments coming up where you can go over things with your GP and then a gastro specialist. I hope that they can help you feel supported and get you on the track for getting some relief. Please, if you're comfortable, let us know how it goes on Monday, and how you feel the Calesevelam is going for you. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  6. that's good to know. Hopefully one (or both) of your doctors can confirm whether this is the case for you! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  7. Hi . I just want to check in and see how your appointment went on Monday and if you got any clarification on what is happening. Hope you get some answers and a treatment plan soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  8. not yet got review with the Gastroenterology on 9th June. But thinking my symptoms is maybe because of Bile acid malabsorption, also known as bile salt malabsorption or bile acid diarrhea (BAD), is characterized by a number of symptoms, including diarrhea, urgency to defecate, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can be quite severe and significantly impact a person's quality of life. My last bloods came back with the rheumatic elevated again and border line for diabetes. Am back at work this week.
