Crohn’s Newbie

I have been living with a Crohn’s diagnosis for just a month. I have always had digestive issues, some serious cramping and diarrhea here and there over the years that usually cleared up in a few days. Over the past couple of years I’ve had some pretty serious problems in my personal life and I think the stress finally started taking it’s toll and allowed my disease to send me into my first serious flare. I started getting every bug that came my way and a few months ago my symptoms worsened. You know the ones. Severe stomach pain, diarrhea, bleeding, weight loss. etc. My primary care doctor set me up with with a GI and a colonoscopy showed I had some serious inflammation. He hit me with the news….Crohn’s disease. Wait!!! This illness never goes away, it can’t be happening to me! It is though. In the past couple of months my whole life has changed…

So sorry you have been diagnosed with Crohn’s. I too have it, and it isn’t an easy journey. However, I will say, never lose hope. It is possible to get it under control and function. Keep searching for answers. Keep advocating for yourself. And keep doing trial and error. Everything is so personalized with this disease, that really the greatest harm you can do is to stop trying new things. Eventually you will find what works. I hope you are doing better these days!
