Is my rectal bleeding a sign of ulcerative colitis?

I've been experiencing rectal bleeding for about 10 months now with bits of mucus. I'm 20 years old and had a colonoscopy a few months ago and the results came back as inflammation in the rectum but I was not diagnosed with UC.

The rectal bleeding is the only symptom of UC I have apart from the obvious inflammation. I am just wondering if anyone else's UC started with just bleeding and no other symptoms?

It could be that. Or Crohn's disease of the colon, or possibly something else. I would just say to discuss it with your gastroenterologist. Just for perspective, my brother had similar symptoms and was eventually diagnosed with Crohn's disease (that was in the colon and other places). Hope you feel better. Best, Matt (Team Member)

Hi Jake, Rectal bleeding is one of the symptoms of IBD. I think one way of finding is to go for Colonoscopy along with Biopsy. By having a Colonoscopy, Doctor can see some patches/pattern if its similar to IBD . Biopsy will tell the actual reason/ disease. Hope it helps.

Hi, My diagnosis journey was similar. I had those symptoms with some others but my body was still fighting so I was undiagnosed for years. I've had 8 or 9 colonoscopies over the last 13 years. My current diagnosis is proctitis/UC, I now have bleeding and mucus without the other symptoms. I would talk to your GI indepth to get a better understanding of your condition.

Yes that is all I have also. I am going to see a specialist this month. The suppositories they have given me are not helping. Did they give you any medication?

For me, it started with frequent bathroom breaks, then urgency, then bleeding and so on... however, after 10 years, I have finally found a cure.. Yes, this is true.. Please see the topic I posted "Cured-Ulcerative Colitis"... https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/cured-ulcerative-colitis I live in the US. if you are not or you are not able to get to this doctor, then I'd recommend finding another doctor like this who is close to you, so you can get rid of this issue.
