Coltis after c diff?

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone on here.. I suffered from c diff after two rounds of antibiotics. Undiagnosed for months because my GP and GI doctor he sent me to said it was IBS. Luckily I got a new one and she figured it out at my first visit!

Anyway... I still have not gotten back to normal (7 months later), and a calprotectin stool test shows me at "borderline" by about 12 over the "normal." All blood tests have come up normal as well.

Anyone else develop colitis from c diff? I've read articles that it's possible. My symptoms are all over: looser stools, mucus in stool, lower right stomach cramps and pains, undigested food in stools, back pain, bloating, pain after eating, and borderline inflammation.

I'm not running to the bathroom throughout the day, I go once in the am. So I keep getting told it's normal. I don't feel normal. Very frustrating! I obviously don't want more problems, but if I have them, I'd love to start the process of trying to feel somewhat better.

  1. Hi -

I too have had c-diff several times, but unfortunately I already had a Crohn's disease diagnosis, so my experiences have been a little different. What you describe though comparatively to your normal does sound like it's worth further investigating though. Have you sought a second opinion?

    Thinking of you!

    1. Hi, Amanda!
      Thank you for your reply.
I'm currently in the process of getting a second opinion at a larger center with more specialist. I think that might be the way to go since I'm limited where I live. I tried to get into a local GI and it's almost a 2 month wait! I have to travel about 3 hours, but I want answers and relief.
I just figured after I was cleared of the c diff, I'd get back to normal. I've developed intolerances to a lot of foods now as well since it all started. It's been trial and error all on my own for the most part.
Fingers crossed I can get in sooner and get answers!

      Thanks again!

      1. Hi ,

So good to hear from you! I know that traveling to see specialists can be so draining, but I think it's a better alternative than waiting several months!

I know that trial and error process very well, and I know how very frustrating it can be. Please know that you're not alone and that we're rooting for you to find answers and relief!

        Warmly,

      2. Hi, @amandao !

Thank you so much again for your reply and kind words as always 😀 I have managed to get an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio on the 18th. This is with a general gastroenterologist, but I believe it's a step in the right direction! I tried to get in to see a specialist who deals with IBD, but they said I would need to be seen by a GI first since I'm not diagnosed and currently looking for answers.

I wish I had done it sooner, but my symptoms weren't always this bad. The pain only began a few months ago and I was so hopeful with my second GI doctor until recently. I would call and they'd pass my info to one of the PA's, not my doctor, and she insisted I had IBS.

The other hurdle is that I am almost 12 weeks pregnant as well! So I'm really trying to make sure my body is absorbing all the nutrients I eat so baby gets them. I have luckily gained 2 more lbs since my last appointment, so I must be getting something! I was down to 111lbs once I was finally treated for c diff (1 GI, 1 hospital visit, and 2 GPs later)! I'm up to 120 again which is close to my beginning weight of 123.

Anyway, I've rambled enough! I'll keep you posted as I hopefully get answers.

        Thank you again!!

    2. ,

Oh my gosh! I am 12 weeks 2 days today!! Congratulations to you!!! I am so glad that you're going to Cleveland Clinic. They have a great reputation and I am hoping that they really listen to you and help you seek answers, while supporting your current health and the health of your babe!

Please keep me posted, I'll be thinking of you!

      Congratulations again!!

      Warmly,
