undigested food in stool

  • By KatLangley

I was diagnosed with Crohns about 18 months ago and was diagnosed have had undigested food in my stool for several years prior to diagnosis. By the time I was diagnosed my colon was like raw hamburger with ulcers. I was bleeding. I was on prednisone-not helping-was hospitalized and started on IV steroids, IV nutrition, and fluids. I was finally started on Remicade infusions after 8 days of not not getting any better. I started getting better within a few days-have not had that undigested food since. I became sensitive to Remicade and couldn’t tolerate Humira-and am now on Entyvio infusions and doing pretty good!

How about leafy greens, I love salad. I can have a big salad at times and not effect me, other time it’ll be maybe 20 minutes after I’m done eating and my stomach gurgles and is in pain, then the feeling of urgency.

Isn’t it odd how the same foods can affect you so differently? Thank you so much for sharing, unbound2609!

This is certainly common for me. After two resections that removed about four feet of terminal ileum and a foot of ascending colon — OK, that’s just about the entire terminal ileum and ascending colon — I hold the land speed record for moving food from one end to the other. All I can say is … you get used to it. I did, anyway. Just be aware if you eat watermelon in this hot weather.

I was recently diagnosed and before starting going on a diet/medicine there was lots of undigested veggies in my diarrhea but now I’m symptom free and have only seen bits of sunflower seeds so I stopped eating sunflower seeds.

Yes, I try to stay away from seeds, greens with stems, fruit with pulp. They tend to slip through without being chewed up properly.

      Hi @northernirish

I would definitely consult your doctor about the asacol tablets coming through undigested. That means you aren’t getting the medication. Pills might not be a good method for you right now.

Yes, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s and when I was in a flare, I had undigested food show up in my BM’s. It wasn’t until the flare was under control that this went away. You definitely aren’t alone on this one ♡

    Always dancing,
