For me seeing a Naturopathic Medical Doctor was the best thing I ever did. For the first four years of my diagnosis I only saw Gastroenterologists and was just hopping from one medication to the next with zero results.
From my experience with the NMD, I was educated on the importance of diet, mental health, environmental aspects and supplementation.
In learning so much, I then began to explore things on my own. An alternative remedy I use daily is essential oils. Peppermint Essential Oil in particular is something I use 24/7. I keep a bottle in the washroom and pretty much every time I have a bowel movement I use it. It keeps things moving and gets all the bloating/gas out.
Another interesting and sort of strange remedy I tried recently was the use of the Dome Sauna. I don't know the full/proper name of the machine but basically it produces heat and you lay under it for x amount of time. I would do 45 minutes a day. Apparently the "special heat" (I can't explain the precise science behind it) that it produces, promotes healing in the body on a cellular level. It also helps rid of viral and bacterial infection. Well, I have to say, when I had access to this little contraption, I saw major improvement in my symptoms. I'm thinking of purchasing one for my personal use, but it is a bit pricey.

Hi Elizabeth, Can you please explain to me how the peppermint essential oil is utilized? I have been working with naturopath doctor for 3 years, Chinese herbal medicine practitioner before that, and many other alternative health practitioners specializing in dozens of treatments, and no one has mentioned the peppermint essential oil. I use essential oils in a diffuser during prayer and calming exercises, but when you said you keep it in the bathroom, I knew that's not the utilization you are referring to! Thank you!

Yes, I'd love to elaborate.
I use the peppermint essential oil topically. Now I have to be super clear when I say, that I use a very expensive therapeutic essential oil that is meant for topical application. Typical big box brand essential oils that you see in common stores are not of this quality and if applied topically is dangerous.
But with the kind I use, I apply it to my abdomen with some coconut oil and the relief is practically instant. I literally use the oil every day and I am so thankful for it.
Feel free to message me if you have anymore questions!

I have found that acupuncture helped my Crohn's a lot, as well as changing my diet (gluten and dairy free) and better managing stress.
I have been in remission since 2016 and started acupuncture in 2014 after my partial colectomy. I am also on Stelara, but was unable to maintain a response to medication until I started making the changes that I mentioned above. I hope this helps, and I hope you are well!
