Burning Anal Pain for hours after a bowel movement !!

Hi, I have UC, diagnosed 10 years ago. Im female & just turned 60 !! Im on Pentasa and have been continuously. I have had the odd flare up and been on steroids but mainly well controlled.
In January I had a heart stent fitted and put on medication that gave diarrhea, which was changed asap.
Every since I have had what I thought was hemorrhoids and have been treating them as so.
My back passage is burning for about 5/6 hours after a bowel movement , pain when going poo , I get spasms up my bum sometimes too which is so painful. Also stomach cramps and a dig in my left lower abdomen.
I am now doubting its hemorrhoids and it is an Ulcerative Colitis flare? Its the burning that im confused about !!
Would love to hear peoples thoughts on this and is this anyone has experienced ?

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to these issues, but this forum discussion was on left sided colitis: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/burning-sensation-due-to-colitis-please-help. A couple of our patient leaders wrote about that burning feeling (see: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/butt-burn and https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/irritation). I don't know how closely these match up with your experience, but want to share the information. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. If you have concerns of it being a flare (and the left side pain can certainly be a symptom) please don't hesitate to contact your doctor. Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts and experiences. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. HI. I just wanted to follow up on my previous post from 10 days ago about the burning pain. I managed to eventually get a doctor appointment ( not easy in my uk surgery currently ) and I was diagnosed with Proctitis and after several days of being on steroids I am starting to feel better. So it was more of a burning painful rectum then just a burn around the anus.
And also finally after about 10 years I have been referred to a IBD care team, which had never been offered to me before as my UC was quite managed apart from a few over the years.

      1. Hi . Thanks for updating us. Glad to hear that your persistence in getting to see the doctor has resulted in a treatment that is helping. It is interesting that you finally have been referred to an IBD care team. Hopefully this leads to good continuity in care and control. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    2. Yes.

      1. Cut down on my pepper and my spices help me a whole lot I found out that I overused too much pepper although I love pepper LOL I get the burning sensation so I cut back on my pepper and my spices and it has helped me a whole lot keep believing🙂

        1. I'm so glad you've found something that's helping with the burning sensation. Was cutting back on pepper and spices something your doctor recommended or just something that you found with trial and error? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
