Getting tested for IBD

I have been recently for the past month having more loose stools sometimes that are liquid with urgency multiple times a day. They have enough having a lot of mucus and sometimes looking maroon. I have been having abdominal cramping especially after eating. I did do a fecal calprotectin done that came back at 661.

I'm scared that it could be IBD that my gastro doctor thinks.

  1. Will you behaving a colonoscopy with biopsy? A high fecal calprotectin is indicative of IBD. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Yes I will be getting one in 2 weeks. I'm just so nervous to have to try and take care of myself with this and take care of my little son all by myself. I hear soo much about IBD and it's all scary especially the unknown.

      1. The unknown is always scary. Deep breaths. What you are feeling is normal. But do know that IBD is manageable. It is possible. Finding the right medication and lifestyle is key. Once the colonoscopy is done you will have a lot more answers and will give way to which treatment is best. If you ever have any questions reach out. Do you have anyone to help offer you support while you go through this process? -Elizabeth (team member)

    2. Thank you. I have my mother who is going to be taking me to the colonoscopy. She is sometimes difficult, but she doesn't think I am sick that I look healthy but in reality I feel so run down and miserable.

      1. I have bone on bone arthritis in both of my knees and for the past couple of years have not had any problems with my arthritis in my knee untill this morning. I have been having pain with walking and swelling and motion in my knee. Is this something with IBD?

      2. It can be. I have issues with joints when I flare. Definitely let your doctor know. Also, I found that certain medications gave me issues with my joints too. -Elizabeth (team member)

    3. MY doctor moved my colonoscopy today. I have a Mild case of Crohns in my small bowel. They are sending me in a script for Budesonide and I will be seeing the IBD team in a month.

      1. I'm sorry you have Crohn's but I am happy to hear that it is mild. I hope the Budesonide offers you relief. Did they talk to you about diet and life style change? I would ask to be referred to a Dietician that has experience with Crohn's patients. It is important that you do what you can naturally to heal the gut lining in addition to taking medication. -Elizabeth (team member)
