Mezavant for Ulcerative Colitis
Hi I've recently been diagnosed with UC and I am having my first flare up. Has anyone taken mezavant oral tablet? Did you just take them to get over the flare up? I'm in a lot of pain but reluctant to take them? Any guidance please would be appreciated

Hello JB. I was using them for crohns 4 tablets per day, but stopped taking them after a week or so because of the smell. All I could smell was the mezavant, all I could taste was the smell of mezavant.
My gastro said that they were the mildest form of medication for treating crohns, with very few detrimental side effects that the other more aggressive treatments for UC and crohns. They are suppose to assist with reducing inflammation, so if you are going through a flare, they should be suitable.

I haven't had mezavant, but I have had a similar medication. I have always taken the medications given to me for my UC by my Gastro. In my experience, there's no way out of a flare without them.
Never feel like you can't talk to your GI about your concerns. Communication is key in healthcare relationships!
