UC

I am 63 was diagnosed with UC 3 years ago. Was put on medicarion for about 3 mths then taken off even though still have it. I also have B12 deficiency. (Preneshia Anemia). I have bloating, lower abdomen pain so bad where I can not even stand up straight yo walk, My bowel movements come at spur of the moments without warning. I have lots of smelly gas, stay tired, no energy. Had colonoscopy 3 years ago. My stomach comstantly makes noises.

  1. I absolutely get those symptoms. I was previously diagnosed with UC in 2008 and Crohn’s in 2019. The symptoms are overwhelming. People definitely don’t understand the pain, pure exhaustion, constant gas, and all the activity going on in there. I’m glad you came here and shared. I’m praying for us!

    1. Hi , I'm sorry to hear that you're going through all this. Have you gotten a second opinion at all? I'm a little surprised to hear you were taken off medications/not given a maintenance medication as many people with UC need to take something/get an infusion on a regular basis to keep their symptoms at bay. In addition, I am surprised that you have not had a follow up colonoscopy in 3 years, as my provider is planning to do a follow up to make sure I am in remission, etc, more frequently than that. We are all different and have different treatment plans, but if you are unhappy with the care you've received, I would absolutely recommend a second opinion, ideally with an IBD specifically GI doctor. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk more! -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

      1. I am seriously thinkinh about getting a second opinion. I am also yhinkinh about getting a second opinion for my B12.deficiency. I have been seeing the same Dr since 2009 have been taking shots anywhere from weekly to mthly an my B12 has still not gotten back to normal. When my mom's got low they gav her transfusion's. It's like I go in every 6 mths they do blood work call me back with results an tell me how yo tale my shots

        1. I concur with Eshani. Personally, I always believe you can't be wrong with getting another doctor's opinion. Sounds like blood work should be done, too. Maybe your hormone levels could also be a bit out of whack with the fatigue issue? I'm no doctor, but I would definitely ask for bloodwork. And as much as everyone hates getting a colonoscopy, three years seems a bit dated. You need more current information about your UC. So, I agree that if your current doctor isn't addressing your needs, then I would seek another one. Please update us as your journey continues. Best wishes for a pain-free day. 2. Toilet urgencies are common.
Also because uc only affects the lower part of the colon eventually you end up with scar tissue and it becomes harder to hold it in. Especially when you're loose.
I have had many meds and tried many supplements.

Now I only take one type of med and a supplement.
Not had a flare up in a long time..
        Mesalazine 800mg (medication)

And. A supplement called psyllium husk. 2x 500mg a day.

Search it.. It works for me and another friend who also suffers.

I've struggled for abt 6yrs and only just fou d this supplement.

Take 2 in the morning then it works with your meals and thickens your stools. Also not had a painful flare since.

Trust me just try it and let me know.. Would be great if I could help someone else.

        1. Thank you again for sharing such great tips on what has brought you relief. It is so important to share. Do you not struggle with urgency anymore taking the psyllium husk supplement? -Elizabeth (team member)
