2 illness at one go

Hello everyone,

I feel so lonely, miserable and in terrific pain lately.
I have Crohn's - and Hashimoto disease.
They are both horrible, a little Levothyroxine change makes me lethargic, sleepy, inflamed so Crohn's flares up cause me terrible back pain, inflammation in my joints and my gums inflamed as well.

I actually think I am living through hell each day.
I have no family and friends support in the UK although I lived here for 10 years.

My divorce doesn't help me neither.

I am a single Mom of a 4.5 years old boy.

Can someone just give me advice?

I take life day by day.

Thanks,
Szabina

  1. Hiya. I am so sorry you're dealing with all this but you are definitely not alone even though you feel like you are. You can contact us anytime or even send private messages as well. I've had Crohn's for 35 years and I have felt like you have many many times and even though I cannot help with the pain, I can help with support and a shoulder. What are you on for Crohn's? When you have IBD, taking life day by day is a good way to deal with it.
Let us know how you get on, we're all here for you

    1. Thank you for your comforting words.
Crohn's making me to numb with my emotions and the pain is so horrible, makes my spine cracking literally, my gums are bleeding, inflamed joints.
I am prescribed taking vedolizumab, I have to inject myself but I don't think it's working. And because this is immunosuppressant I have cold symptoms every two weeks.

How do you deal with your symptoms, what are you using for it?
Thank you very much in advance.
      I really appreciate your kindness.
      Sincerely,
      Szabina

    2. I was on Remicade infusions for about 8 years before it stopped working and now I am on Humira injections every two weeks. I haven't had symptoms since I had ostomy surgery in 2020. Maybe the vedolizumab isn't working anymore for you and maybe check with your Dr ask ask for a trough level check (vedolizumab levels) in your body. If the levels are low then maybe your body has become immune and need to try another biologic. Unfortunately with IBD, it is a lot of trial and error as far as meds are concerned. You can always send a private message if you want to chat or just want to say hi. Sometimes an ear is all we need.
Let us know how you get on.

  2. Hi . It certainly sounds like you have a lot going on. There are definitely others here experiencing comorbid conditions and this article from our editorial team discusses this and trying to navigate life with more than one condition: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/comorbidities. Also, you mention struggling with the Hashimoto's treatment exacerbating the Crohn's. Can you get your doctors to communicate and try to work on a treatment plan for both? Also, others here understand trying to parent while dealing with a chronic illness. This article discusses this: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/parenting-with-chronic-illness and this one offers tips for parents: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/parent-tips. Hope this information is helpful and that others chime in with their experience. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
