Am I the only one that falls asleep if they sit down? I am on autoimmune therapy since 2017.

  1. Hello, . While I'm not sure about the falling asleep as soon as sitting down, I do know that many of our community members have the knock-down-drag-out fatigue with their inflammatory bowel disease. I'm sharing links to articles from two different health leaders about the fatigue and exhaustion they experience. This one, Beyond Tired, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/living-with-fatigue, and this one, about the fatigue before a flare, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/fatigue-before-flare. And hopefully some of our community members here can also chime in and share their experiences with fatigue, especially if they suffer from it similarly to you.

Also, is this a relatively new occurrence or something that's been going on since 2017? If it's new, and you haven't already, I would also encourage you to reach out to your doctor as any new or worsening symptoms is worth a conversation with them. There certainly can be a lot of difference reasons someone might be experiencing this level of fatigue, which is why touching base with a doctor can be such a good idea. (Here's a link to an editorial article with more information about potential causes of fatigue as well, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/fatigue)

I hope you can also get some helpful feedback from other community members here. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hi . On top of the excellent information from Christine, I want to note that there is mounting evidence that narcolepsy is an autoimmune condition. This article offers more information: https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/narcolepsy/. I only mention this because autoimmune conditions love to collect other autoimmune conditions. Of course, only a doctor could provide diagnostics, but thought you would like the information. That said, as Christine covered, the fatigue from the disease and, potentially, the treatments may be the more likely cause. Hoping you can get some answers and improvement in your energy soon. Please feel free, if you like, to keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      1. Yes

        1. I am with server fatigue each day due to running my own company and attempting to get fit. I manage by being upfront and when it starts to hit. I then go to a room on my own or withmy dogs and sleep. Start again when wake up. Seems to work

          1. Hi . Listening to your body can be key. Much like you, in this article our patient leader Julie Marie discusses it being o.k. to rest: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/napping. As a friend with a different autoimmune condition likes to say - embrace the nap. Best, Richard (Team Member)
