Anxiety

My anxiety is getting worse as I get older. I can’t leave my apartment some days. There’s nothing in particular that worries me. I have “unsituational anxiety “ that just comes whenever it wants. I meditate, breathing apps work best, I do art daily, it really brings peace. I’m currently prescribed Citalopram 40mg /day. My doctor won’t go any higher in the dose. He won’t prescribe a PRN (as needed) medication either, like Ativan or anything similar. Anyone else in the same boat as I am? Or any advice , any natural supplement suggestions? I’ll try anything! Thanks for reading!

  1. I'm sorry you have to go through this. I wish I had a magic wand, or even a suggestion that might help! Have you been referred for any types of therapy?

      1. I don't think your reply has come through properly??
I couldnt think of the herb that was on the tip of my tongue last time, but I have remembered, and it's called valerian. You find it in a number of different herbal remedies for anxiety - I used to use some from the supermarket, but I am in the UK so I can't really recommend them for you. It's actually also in the pet spray I use for the dogs to keep them calm! I love essential oils. I am not actually sure whether they help at all, but there are a number of them which are said to be good for anxiety, including Lavender, ylang ylang, Chamomile, Bergamot... You can apply them topically in a 1-2% ratio with a carrier oil/lotion, or you can diffuse them. Might be worth a look!

      1. Sorry to hear that you deal with this type of anxiety as well, . Do you find that the medication helps? I'm not sure if your anxiety is related to inflammatory bowel disease or not, but one of our health leaders wrote about her UC and anxiety. I'm not sure whether or not it would be helpful or applicable to your situation, but I wanted to share it with you just in case, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/ulcerative-colitis-and-anxiety. Wishing you a gentle day! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
