Coping with IBD before a diagnosis

Hello all, I’ve read the forums for years and received great advice. I thought it might be time to join and hopefully help others whilst on this journey. I’ve had unusual bowel movements for years, very fast transit, mucus, undigested food, frequent bowel movements, pain. Every 12-18 weeks like clockwork I would get ill with tiredness the symptoms and lethargy.
Last year things escalated, I’m 28 now at the time I was 27, I had a very severe incident of those symptoms.
Fecal calprotectin was 540 and I’m awaiting a referrral for an urgent colonoscopy. I’m so tired recently I’ve been trying to exercise and eat well, but the tiredness is getting extreme. Any advice or guidance? Hopefully I can get the referral through soon.

  1. Have you had bloodwork recently? The tiredness could be from anemia or other deficiencies like low vitamin B. Maybe ask your doctor for blood work to see if it shows anything? Hope this helps some. Big hugs, Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Thank you for replying . I haven’t had any recent blood work but I’ll definitely request that when I speak to them this week.
All the best and take care.

    2. all I can really advise is that you listen to your body. If it's telling you to rest then rest. Some blood tests might identify something that is contributing to the fatigue, but IBD itself often causes it anyway.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on!
