How bad is your pain?

I have extreme lower left quadrant pain. CT showed thickening of sigmoid colon. I’m booked for a colonoscopy tomorrow. The pain is really unbearable. I’ve seen pain on the list of symptoms for IBD, but is it usually this intense burning / stabbing pain?

  1. I'm sorry you are going through the intense pain but unfortunately, it can be very very intense and is part of having IBD if that ends up being the diagnosis. Do you have the pain as constant or just when you eat? I would suggest switching to a liquid diet for a few days to let your intestines settle down and then start re-introducing more solid foods. Try staying away from dairy and any heavy fatty foods and meat.
I know exactly how you are feeling.

    1. Pain for IBD can be severe and intense for sure. I'm so sorry you are going through this. How did your colonoscopy go? It should definitely shed light as to why you are having the pain. Did they take biopsies too? Let us know how you are. -Elizabeth (team member)

      1. Grenade went off in the🧨

        1. The pain can be so heavy & dull, or sometimes sharp like an icepick. But the not knowing when and where it will strike(the pain and the diarrhea) is a constant stress. Add my anxious depression to the mix and it's such a wonderful combo! Not.

          1. Hi . You definitely are not alone in struggling with the unpredictability of the pain and IBD in general. Our patient leader Sahara wrote about this here: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/unpredictable-symptom-changes. How have you been doing recently in controlling things?
