How can I ease off bloating and constipation

I feel so fed up with constant bloating and irregular bowels how can I ease this without keeping taking different meds

  1. We hear you, ! The bloating and irregularity can be really challenging. I hope some of our community members can share any tips or tricks with you on what they find helpful, but in the meantime I wanted to share this information from you with some ideas for managing gas and bloating, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/gas-bloating, and in this article one of our health leaders wrote about her experience with ulcerative colitis and gas/bloating, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/colitis-gas-bloating. And finally, this article has some information on alternative/complementary therapies (if you are looking for symptom management without medications), https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/complementary-and-alternative-therapies. Hopefully these articles can give you a starting point while we wait for others to chime in! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. thank you for this useful information 😀

  2. I struggled with this for decades, but I researched food and drink and I now try to avoid food and drink that have gaseous properties. Things like carbonated drinks, onion, cauliflower, garlic, beans, cabbage, things that contain lactose or fructose, etc. It took awhile and I still occasionally eat these but I avoid them 95% of the time.

    1. Hi . Just to follow up on the excellent information from Vern, I want to share with you this article from our editorial team on the FODMAP elimination diet: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/clinical/crohns-fodmap-diet. It focuses on eliminating foods that contain the gas producing sugars. Hope this information helps. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      1. Currently on the low FODMAP elimination phase and I have noticed a reduction in bloating and gas. Will be interesting to see how the reintroduction phase goes and identifying specific trigger foods.
I also take activated charcoal, docusate sulphate, Simeticone and live cultured yogurt to help with gas, bloating, and constipation.

        1. keep us posted on how reintroduction goes! I am glad you have seen improvement. I know how uncomfortable the bloating and gas can be. Thank you for taking the time to share what has been helpful for you. Sending thoughts your way! Warmly, Erin (team member)
