I have a question for other Crohn's patients

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1985 when I was 44 years old. Before a bad flare-up, I get Canker Sores in my mouth. The sores appear days before the flare-up and I do not always think about what is coming until it happens.
Does anyone else have this happen?
Thanks.

  1. That is interesting. When I flare severely I get sores but during the flare. That's a great way to know to offer your body support to help relieve the flare. Perhaps starting a liquid diet when you get the sores can help? Lots of broth, butternut squash soup, pumpkin soup? Things like that? Just thinking out loud. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I agree with Elizabeth. When the canker sores arrive, that's your sign to assess your bodily environment. What are you eating? Have you eaten something that triggers your Crohn's? Are you getting enough sleep? Exercise? Are you overly stressed? Since your diagnosis came 38 years ago, you probably know your Crohn's well enough to understand the triggers. So, I would take a personal inventory of what's going on around and inside you when the sores arrive. At that point, treat yourself to massive doses of RELAXATION. Whatever helps you get through a flare, I'd start on that immediately. Also, that's probably a signal to contact your physician to start on a medicinal treatment.

I hope this helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you're doing. We're sending you positive vibes for a super day. --Traci, UC-IBD Team Member

      1. I have UC and I also get mouth sores. My doctor said because its an auto immune disease, the mouth sores are also a result of the auto immunity, the mouth sores is my body attacking itself. I find that I can months without them and then I get a few in a row. I have no remedy or cure that works other than time for them to go away!

        1. Hi . Has your doctor ever taken a tissue sample/biopsy of your mouth sores? I ask, because, as noted in this article from our editorial team on the topic, the material can be examined for signs of inflammation or infection: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/mouth-sores-and-other-oral-symptoms. If there is a different cause, such as medication side effect, there may be something different that can be done to treat them. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      2. They occur during a flair for me.
