Leg pain in calf's and shins

Hi I'm currently going through yet another flare up for my ulcerative colitis. I get real strong pains and weakness in my lower legs. It doesn't happen all the time but it seems to be when I've been really straining to go to the toilet which is a lot. I sometimes get it in my hamstrings and quads but mostly it's my calf's and shins and as I say not always. I know there can be a link between arthritis and inflammation and I just wondered if anyone else had this and also how you treated it? Thanks

  1. Sorry to hear you have this happen. I have Crohn's and yes, it happened to me as well. Not all the time but definitely while in a flare. My GI told me what you already know and that is the inflammation from IBD can cause other problems. They was not much to do about it, in my case, except massaging the leg. I bought a roller to roll up and down my calf and quads, sometimes my whole leg. The pain would get so bad I would get so frustrated and just punch my legs. Sometimes I would use Voltaren and rub into the muscles or hot baths.

    1. I have had similar experiences but didn’t make the connection. Thanks for sharing.

      1. Hi! I have UC and my knees get really painful and sore. I don’t treat it with anything I just massage my knees. Also I get cramp up the front of my shins. Sorry I don’t have any helpful advice, but at least you’re not alone☺️
