Long periods of stomach pain in remission (UC)

I've had my ulcerative colitis under control for years without a flare up by taking mesalazine. I had my 10 year colonoscopy check up around a year ago and there were no signs of inflammation. I still however get long bouts of stomach upset (dull painuncomfortable bloating) that get worse for weeks at a time and then pass. When I need to urinate it seems to make the pain worse (like when I wake up in the morning). I've seen the doctor about this previously and they couldnt find a specific reason. I had a cystoscopy and nothing was found wrong with my bladder. Does anyone else experience these symptoms in remission? I'm not sure if it is the colitis (as i am in remission) or could be something else like IBS or an intolerance.

  1. Hi, there! I think it's interesting that you mentioned a possible "intolerance." Have you noticed any "trigger" foods that seem to result consistently in pain and bloating? I've never been on mesalazine for a long haul--only used it for short stints. But I did notice--even during my short stints--that I always felt bloated, tired, and uncomfortable. I don't particularly remember pain when urinating, but I did experience some awful headaches. The headaches were rough. That's why I could never take it long-term. Oh! One thing I did learn when on it is that you need to drink plenty of water. Stay hydrated! That could be resulting in pain for you. What does your doctor say? I'd definitely discuss these symptoms with him/her.

I hope you feel better soon. Please stay in touch and let us know how it goes.
