Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
I've been battling a case of oral thrush since April (I was taking a lot of antibiotics and steroids then -- which is most likely when I developed it). My PCP has prescribed three different medications, but none of them have been able to totally clear it up. By the time I pick up a new prescription or get a refill, the thrush has returned to its original state, and is just as slow to go away.
I'm really worried about the possibility of it spreading to the back of my throat or esophagus, and whether it will be even harder to treat if that does happen.
I had an appointment at an ENT office, but bafflingly enough the PA I saw said that my tongue looked normal and that there was nothing to culture. After returning home and looking in my own mouth with a flashlight -- I can definitely see a white coating and spots that look consistent with oral candidiasis. If someone showed me how, I could probably culture it myself.
It's been frustrating. This has taken so long, and right now (just having started a second two-week course of Itraconazole) it seems to be slightly worse than before this whole ordeal. I know that oral thrush isn't life threatening but it feels like I seem to be the only one who's feeling any sense of urgency about this.
I made another appointment with the ENT office for tomorrow (I would really like to confirm that I'm not going crazy and get a medical opinion on this) and just left a message for my GI asking about it (the one who prescribed Humira).
It's definitely a hurry up and wait situation at the moment, but I feel very anxious about it. Has something similar happened to anyone else? How did you resolve it?
