Rinvoq and weight loss injections

Hello. Anyone doing Rinvoq along with either Tirzepatide or Semaglutide? Would love to be able to do one of the weight loss injections. I haven't seen anything regarding drug interactions.

  1. Hi , thanks for reaching out here. While I personally don't have any experience with Rinvoq and weight loss injections, I hope any of the community members here with experience see your question and can share with you. The weight loss injections are a fairly recent addition to the medical world (at least as far as how widely used they are now), so we don't yet have any information on our site about how they might impact inflammatory bowel disease and/or treatments. Have you been able to speak with your doctor about your desire to do one of the weight loss injections in addition to the Rinvoq? Your doctor or pharmacist would be able to best answer questions about possible drug interactions, etc. with the two. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but hopefully other community members here can let you know about their experiences! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hi . As Christine noted, there isn't much out there yet on the GLP-1 drugs and IBD. I did find this study, which was done on mice, which found that "GLP-1 can help reduce inflammation and membrane injury and regulate intestinal microbiota. Thus, GLP-1 can be considered as a promising therapeutic option to treat intestinal colitis:" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10496996. That said, the authors note some changes that might be necessary for the drug, such as increasing its half-life, so it appears there is some more work to be done to figure out if it is a viable treatment for IBD. That said, this does not note any contraindication for using a GLP-1 for weight loss for those with IBD. Your doctor may be able to provide additional information and guidance.
