Running with IBD!?

Hi,

I’ve been diagnosed with IBD for a while now and I need some advice with running. Is it possible to run whilst in a mild flare? Every time I run 5/6KM I need to use the loo and quickly! I’m trying to figure out any allergies via food diary. Sometimes I can run 21KM and be fine others I can’t even run 1km with needing the low. I want to compete in more races however it feels so inconsistent when I can or can’t run! I run indoors sometimes too for your information. Should I give up on running? Do I only run when I’m not in a flare?

Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to this issue, but I want to share with you this article from our patient leader Jenna on tips for running with IBD: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/crohns-running-tips. Also, here is one from Paul on getting back into exercise: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/crohns-running-routine. I'll be honest, I don't know if there is information here you are not already trying, but hope it is helpful. I also hope that others chime in with their ideas and experiences.
