Sick for months but no one believes me

I'm 17 and got extremely sick a couple of months ago. It started with minor diarrhea and constant puking. I got tested for Covid which thankfully came back negative, but while puking has gone down I use the bathroom 6-7 times a day on average. My mother has Crohn's so I was scheduled for a colonoscopy/endoscopy despite my age. I had it done today and the results are. . . nothing. They found absolutely nothing. My Father doesn't believe me and said it must be in my head because they didn't find anything. They said I'm perfectly healthy but I know something is wrong. No one believes me, I'm so tired, I just want to get better. Is it really all in my head? Is it possible something is wrong even if they found nothing from the procedure? I feel so belittled and alone. I just want answers.

  1. ,

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. It is the absolute worst to feel ill and not have answers as to why.

I am wondering if your doctor took biopsies during your colonoscopy. I am asking because there is a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease called Microscopic Colitis and this can only be determined through a biopsy.

Also, it is totally possible that you may have an issue in your small intestine rather than your colon. A colonoscopy only shows your colon. I would go to your doctor and request a pill cam test. This test will show your small intestine and reveal if indeed you have any issues there.

My advice is, if you feel like something is wrong, then something is wrong. Keep pushing for tests until you get answers. It is not all in your head.

Here is an article that goes over all testing for IBD. Take a look at it and go over it with your doctor.

    1. Did they take biopsies? My intestine often looks reasonably normal on a scope, but then the biopsies tell a different story.

Honestly, wondering if it's all in your head is something that many of us have felt during our journey when it feels like no-one is listening!

As above, there are so many more tests that can be done, so don't give up fighting to be heard if you believe something is wrong!
