How do you handle holding down a job?

I would love to find a very part time job, but am terrified at the thought. I have not worked in over 10years and am now 67. Is the anxiety of going to work worth the preparation, fear and starving myself? I do some limited volunteer work but could really use the extra few dollars. How do you handle a very part time job (if there is such a thing) without getting scared? Any thoughts?

  1. This is a great question, and I hope some community members will weigh in with some personal experiences. I'm also attaching some articles written by our advocates, that you might find helpful.

    1. This is definitely a great question. I personally had to quit my full-time job, as I wasn't able to keep up due to Crohn's. So I completely understand the anxiety you have.

Thankfully now-a-days you can do so much from home as long as you have a computer and internet. I would suggest getting on Pinterest and searching "ways to make money from home" and you will be so surprised with how many things come up. I would start there!

      1. Thank you for your question, !

Fortunately, there are options to work virtually or "from home" for many companies, so perhaps you can look into businesses that allow you to not have to come into a physical office.

If you like to socialize, you can always volunteer for a few hours just to be around others, and you can contact your local Crohn's & Colitis Foundation to see if they need help with anything, as everyone there is especially understanding of your condition. Hope this helps!

        1. Hi!

This is a great question, and something I struggled for a long time with. What I have found is there are several "work from home" or "remote" positions, many even might be in your preferred field, where all you need is access to the internet/phone to do your daily tasks, and you get the comfort of being in your own environment. My best recommendation would be to search online for some of these opportunities!
