Ulcerative colitis treatment

I tried pentasa but it didn´t work, the only thing that works for me is loperamide, i was taking loperamide for 4 months (8 mg) daily, but now it has no effect on me, i think i became tolerant to loperamide. Which other antidiarrheal can i tanke instead of loperamide?

  1. Hi , I'm sorry to hear you are no longer finding relief with your current medication. I do know that the most common anti-diarrheal is the one you're currently taking, loperamide, also known as Imodium. Some other forms of anti-diarrheals, such as diphenoxylate/atropine (Lomotil), are only available with a prescription. If you haven't brought your current treatment concerns up to your doctor yet, I would definitely recommend doing so. Here is some further information regarding anti-diarrheals and treatment in general. https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/symptom-management/anti-diarrheals/

I hope you find a new treatment plan that works for you soon! Please keep us updated, if you can. We're here for you! - Pam (team member)

    1. I am saddened to hear your story...better see a doctor for the best recommendation.

      1. Pepto-Bismol is also a good antidiarrheal medication, but it's better to consult your doctor first just to be safe. There should be a reason why you're not finding relief from loperamide anymore.

        1. A diet change is a lot of help. Are you consuming coffee or carbonated drinks? Also, try deoixifying and do some regular exercises.
