'very non-specific inflammation' ??

Hi all, hope you're all well and battling on....

Today I received an email from my gastro team after a recent small bowel MRI scan, they said my results showed 'very non-specific inflammation in the area where the large bowel meets the small bowel and they need to discuss it further at the next disciplinary meeting... Does anybody know what' non-specific' means in non medical terms? I'm currently freaking out a little thinking that might mean something worse than IBD.
Thank you in advance!

  1. I do not think that it is worse than IBD, but I think it means, because it was an MRI, it is non-specific because they probably need to do a colonoscopy to make it "specific". it could be microscopic in nature. My guess at the meeting, they may decide to give you a colonoscopy but I do not think you need to worry that it could be worse than IBD
ley us know how you get on

    1. Thank you for the reply Vern, that's put my mind at ease. I did have a colonoscopy recently (around 2 months ago) they said it looked mainly clear apart from a very small patch of inflammation in my large bowel which didn't correlate with my high inflammation markers from the stool sample (that's why they wanted to do the MRI in the first place) although, they said the biopsies would take up to six months before they have the results, which seems like a crazy long time

      1. thank you so much Christine, I will keep you updated, take care
