What is the WORST unsolicited advice you've gotten about IBD?

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to living with a chronic illness. Chances are, if you have IBD, you've gotten some unsolicited advice about your condition at some point.
While we know they mean well, it can be extremely frustrating and may even feel like they think they know better than us.
So, tell us, what is the WORST unsolicited advice you've gotten about IBD?

  1. I hear that maybe if I just "eat better" and "think positively," it will all go away.

I find it difficult dealing with co-workers who stay home when they experience loose bowels/diarrhea. They claim they cannot work like that. If I missed work every time I had diarrhea, I would never work.

    1. Hi . It is a big communications problem that most simply have no idea just how bad IBD can be. Know that people here understand. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. I was told getting pregnant 🤰 might help... by my first gastroenterologist.

    1. oh wow. I am speechless that this was actual advice from a doctor... hopefully you've been able to find a gastroenterologist who is supportive and more helpful? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  3. I just want you to be happy! I know there's a cure!

    1. such an incredibly frustrating comment for someone to make. Sending you gentle hugs! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  4. The worse one I had is to stop wanting attention and get over it. As if it’s something glamorous to be wearing disposable underwear🤣🤣🤣

    1. Hi . I'm glad to see you can keep a sense of humor. There are some comments that are conversation enders - not in that they are so powerful, but rather they are so unworthy of the time and effort to bother to respond. As Erin said, people here get it. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    2. Thank you
