I have bowel blockages from adhesions; my last gastroentrologist , after tests, said there was no medical or surgical solution to my problem. It seems no one takes this seriously as a disease and all the doctors I have gone to tell me something different. I have learned to take this into my own hands and deal with it myself. Some of their suggestions and treatments have practically killed me, and with one I ended up with kidney failure and had to go to Mayo Clinic for 2 1/2 weeks. Three years ago I had 22 episodes of partial blockages in one year. I'd just recover from one and then get another one. (Now I monitor myself and take an opiod pain killer (the bare minimum-only thing that helps with the pain) and it's usually over with in 24 hours). 2 years ago I started taking full spectrum CBD capsules, 10mg per day. I am not cured, but I only have attacks now about every 6-8 weeks. What a relief. Some are not as serious as previously, some are. CBD acts differently for every one. It does nothing for me for the pain that I know of, and nothing for my anxiety, but I think it relieves the spasms I get with an attack and holds them off so they don't get started. Since I want to keep the adhesions flexible, I tilt every other day on a inversion table, about 1/3 of the way down, and I think that helps as well. As I get older, the adhesions get tougher and the small intestine gets weaker. The local hospital is quite large, but I was told by the surgeon that if I have a complete blockage I have to go to the large university hospital 125 miles away because the local hospital doesn't have the facilities to handle me. He said I have 6 hours to get there. I made a deal with a small independent hospital 25 miles down the road to do an assessment of me before I go all the way to the specialist. This has been my journey for 10 years now and I have been able to control this with a low residue diet, cbd, recovery diet, every thing they would do at the hospital minus the tube down my nose and the IV. I feel I am walking a tight rope all the time because inbetween attacks I am quite healthy and in really good shape.
