Calprotectin level getting high

Hi , I have diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in January’23 and I took steroids for 4 months and now taking only Pentasa 4g since July.
My Calprotectin level remains below 15 till now , but now in October my Calprotectin level raised to 85
What can be the reason for it getting high when I am taking Pentasa 4g regularly.

Do I need to go for Colonoscopy right now?

  1. It has been my experience that even though you may be on medication and the disease is under control, you still may have inflammation but it may not necessarily be specific to your UC. It means you have active inflammation in your body. Check with your doctor as they would know if it was to be concerning or not.
Let us know how you get on.

    1. Hi . Mind if I ask if your doctor said anything about the rise in the Calprotectin level? I ask because with some tests over 50 or 60 may be high, while there are other tests where values as high as 100 μg/mg may be normal. Also, as Vern said, there are other things, such as infection, that can raise the Calprotectin levels? How have your symptoms been? Hoping you get some answers soon. Best, Richard (Team Member)
