Does your bowel/stomach ever truly empty without prep?

I have EPI, (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency). I’ve been dealing with this since late 2018 and I was diagnosed in April 2019.

I just wondered if your bowel/stomach ever truly empties without having to have prep or a colonoscopy.

I wonder this because I don’t want to keep relying on Imodium. If it does empty how long does it take, or does it depend on the condition?

  1. Hi , the colon naturally has excrement collecting in it, so without a prep you wouldn't ever be totally empty! That being said, the feeling of needing to go and of having diarrhea is not typical and should be evaluated by a medical professional. Though your colon will naturally have excrement in it, you should not be constantly emptying. Are you experiencing this? Thanks for clarifying and hope you are having a good day today! -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    1. it can be empty, but not totally clean, if that makes sense? Your intestine also creates mucous to move waste through it, so having no faeces doesnt neccesairlyu mean you won't have to pass anything. As you said, it would depend on the condition, and simply the body. We're all different.
Why do you want to be empty? I know you've said you don't want to rely on Immodium, so am I right in thinking that you're wanting to be able to go out and not have to go to the toilet? By the time you were empty, you'd likely be very hungry, so it's obviously not healthy...
