No diarrhoea??

Hi, I'm new here. I'm having tests for abdominal pain, severe and constant bloating, no appetite and weight loss. Sometimes pain is bad and includes lower back, sometimes it's barely there. I'm constipated which very unusual for me, and when I do poop, about 3 times in last 2 weeks, its either urgent and loose or a struggle/strain.
My main question is that I'm reading that ibd has diarrhoea as a key symptom but I dont really have that, just mainly not popping at all. This could be due to the fact that I now barely eat at all. Also been asked if I bleed from rectum. I do, and god it hurts, but its bright red and I've always assumed its just if i strain a bit or if it's a big poo. Doesnt seem like 'blood in stools'. Insights appreciated as I cant link this up. Thank you so much.

  1. , sorry to hear you are experiencing this. It sounds like you have been in contact with a physician and are having testing conducted. Which we always recommend reaching out to one's physician with new or developing symptoms. So it is great to hear you have already done that. When it comes to IBD everyone is different and symptoms are varied as well. Others may chime in with their experiences. In the meantime, I included some information we have on constipation that may be of interest - https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/search?s=constipation. Truly hope you and your medical team are able to get to the root of your symptoms. Wishing you well. -Jessica, InflammatoryBowelDisease.net Team Member

    1. constipation can also be a symptom, depending on the type of IBD you have and where it is located. If there is blood in the bowl then that normally falls into the "blood in stool" category. If it's just when you wipe then it could be a fissure (Tear in the anus).
So, to confirm, not having diarrhoea does not mean you don't have IBD.

      1. Thank you so much for those insights it's alot more information than I'm getting from my doctor at the moment.

        2. sadly, you're not the first person to say that the doctor doesn't provide information that's easy to understand - if at all! I spent years feeling a bit bewildered by it all! I am very open and communicate well with healthcare professionals these days, but it was a huge learning curve.
