Corticosteroids strong alternative

Hey good people,
I hope you're healthy and fine and if you're not having your best days, I wish you peace.

I am in the middle of severe flare-up. Although I'm mentally strong and I have been dealing with UC pancolitis, this flare-up is very painful cause the end of my colon and rectum is very inflated. I kbow it's a red alert when I reach to a point that I cannot sleep and now I'm on that point.

I was taking corticosteroids to go on remission from my previous flare-ups, although they put me on remission but they caused me bone density issue or as it's called osteoporosis.
After I relieved from my last flare-up, my doc put me on Humira and I still keep taking Azathioprine, but still these drugs couldn't keep me on remission.

Now my question is, is there any strong alternative drug like corticosteroids to put you on remission quickly?

I have to discuss about my options with my nurse in the upcoming days.

Stay strong,
Purya

  1. To my knowledge there isn't anything that is similar to steroids that you can be on long term. I wish it were the case for myself as well, because I respond great to steroids and always feel my best on them. I am on a medication called Xeljanz. That's an option you can discuss with your nurse. There are tons of meds out there for Crohn's like Stelara, Entyvio, Remicade. Here is an article that goes over medications. Take a read: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/medications Lastly, there is a new drug out on the market that my GI told me about last week. I forget the name, but now there is another option. I hope this helps some. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. mesalamine enema may clear up your rectum right away, if it is working, you should notice positive results fairly quickly in your stool, less pus, mucous, blood, tar, etc...NOT suppositories, and not corticosteroid

then...what do you eat and drink daily? I know everyone asks this, but please humor me.

      1. I’m assuming your mesalmine enema was prescribed by your GI doctor? Because my daughter has not been diagnosed yet—we can’t get them to prescribe that to her— to help her with her symptoms while waiting for results of colonoscopy and other tests. There is a wait where we are for the test. Do you have any suggestions as to how we might get this enema prep? Like from her PCP or is no one going to prescribe without a diagnosis do you think? She was diagnosed with proctitis—which is often the lead up to UC —when she was in the ER. Thanks.
