Could I have IBD?

Hi All.

Would anyone be able to give me any advice/guidance?

I have a long history of struggling with diarrhoea, of which my GP has always diagnosed with IBS (no investigations). Around 6-12 months ago, the diarrhoea has effected my quality of life- incontinence, no long journeys, work life, stomach cramps and sudden watery diarrhoea after eating..

Around 6 weeks ago, I had sudden acute severe abdo pain at work and thought I was going to have to attend a&e, I managed to get the pain to settle within an hour however continued to be very very tender after, after 3 days I decided to ring my GP who refused to see me due to is being a ‘stomach bug’.
My symptoms continues of discomfort and ‘hardness’ left to my belly button, nausea, feeling very full, lack of appetite and lost 9% of my weight within 6 weeks.

I have had 4 GP appts only one GP has seen me in person, my bloods are normal except one showing malnutrition, my stool sample is normal (26).

I decided to go private and Dr advised a CT scan, resulting in a thickened jejunum (presuming where the pain is).

Can anyone relate?
Can you have IBD and a normal faecal calprotectin level?

Thank you for reading and sorry for the long post

  1. So sorry you are going through this. I am glad you got a CT scan. Can you ask for a colonoscopy with biopsy? And yes, you can have normal fecal calprotectin levels and have IBD although it is unusual. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I definitely agree with - a colonoscopy sounds like a good idea! Please let us know what your doctor says. <3 -Eshani (IBD Team Member)
