I am a new person at 51

So I was diagnosed with crohns 16 years ago. I was on a medication and it helped. However I felt I was wrongly diagnosed. So I stopped taking meds. Now I am active and it is in my illeum small bowel and I can't keep iron or vitamin d. So I got rechecked. They want to start me on stelara. Will this work? I have no idea. Any help?

  1. Hello, , and welcome! I'm so glad that you reached out here, and I hope that the community here can give you some helpful feedback. Being in an active flare with inflammation can be a lot, and I'm so glad that you got rechecked by your doctor. Unfortunately, we can not tell you whether or not a medication or treatment will work for you as everyone is different (one of the frustrating things about treating a chronic condition). The good news is that many people have found relief with Stelara and, if it doesn't end up being the one that brings you relief, there are other medications that can be tried.

I want to share a couple articles with you that you might be interested in. This one, the author is on Stelara and writes about her "little wins" with Crohn's, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/finding-little-wins. I'm not sure if you'll be doing Stelara infusions or injections so I wanted to share an article with you one of our health leaders wrote about infusion tips, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/infusion-essentials, and this article has information on starting an injection, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/living/biologic-injections.

I wish there was a way to tell you for sure whether or not the Stelara will work for you. Unfortunately, when it comes to treatment, it can be a lot of trial and error, but hopefully some of our community members with experience on Stelara can share with you here as well.

Wishing you a gentle day! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
