Do you find it harder to manage IBD symptoms during any particular season?

Hi everyone First time on your forum and pleased to have found this site. I've had Crohn's for 37 years. Have always found summertime the most difficult with IBD. Now with climate change the temps are do extreme and makes IBD more difficult. Does anyone else find one season is harder than others?

  1. Hi . First, let me say welcome to the community (we're sorry for the need, but glad for a place where people can get support and information). The weather and different seasons seem to impact people differently, but I know there are plenty, like you, who find the heat and humidity of summer difficult to navigate with IBD. We actually have a number of articles and forums on the topic and I want to share with you this search of our archive for you to peruse at your convenience: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/search?s=weather. Also, please know that this community is here for you. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. Most definitely summer and winter. I'm sensitive to the sun in the summer and I dehydrate easier too. In the winter the cold really affects my joints and makes it difficult to do the things I enjoy doing like riding my snowmobile.

      1. I have always had a problem with the summertime. Nausea, diarrhea and no appetite. It has got to the point that now with hotter temperatures in the summer I faint if in the sun more than few minutes. On the other hand, winter is my healthiest time of year. But I do not have a problem with my joints yet. Do have arthritis but very little so it is not a problem so far.

        1. Oh no, I am sorry that you cannot enjoy the summer as you used to! The heat can really affect us. Does anything help you? I find that adding electrolyte powder to my water can help me! -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

      2. Thank you for thinking of me. Instead of electrolytes, Dr has me on, Potassium Jamp K 600mg x4 a day. It does help.
