Emergency car moment

Hi everyone. I’m new here, I have Crohn’s disease for about 10 years. I’ve just joined from my hotel room, I’m working away from home for a few days. On the way here I had that ‘urge’ and didn’t make it to the hotel. I was able to manage it with a pot in the car but it just makes me feel so frustrated! It is these days that make this disease so terrible. I suppose I’m looking for solidarity 🤞 anyone else had a day like that today?? Carrie x

  1. Hi Sorry to hear that you're struggling today. I can honestly say that I know how you feel as I think many of us can.
I have come close many times while nowhere near a washroom to the point where I am glad I take extra clothes with me wherever I go cuz you never know.
I agree that Crohn's is a very frustrating and terrible disease and it's almost like there are more bad days than good sometimes.
I've had an ostomy for two years now but for the other 32 years with Crohn's I've been where you are. Now with an ostomy, I get leaks that are also frustrating and infuriating plus the leak is visible in the front. Ugh.
We have our good days and bad days eh?
    I'm with you.
    Keep in touch

    1. Yes, I have had times like that. TODAY for one. I was Tech Host for a Seminar on Zoom, and just as we were getting underway, had to dash to the bathroom. It was bad enough that I couldn't return. I am feeling bad for myself and hypervigilant about whether more is coming, quite uncomfortable, feeling like I have just lost another day. Fortunately, I am working from home.

      1. I have found that working from home helps me a lot. I would keep my computer right at the edge of the bathroom and then would run in during a meeting (camera off). Not cute, but sometimes necessary. Hope that you feel better soon. <3 -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    2. Just know you are not alone!! Feeling embarrassed is the first reaction however not necessary.

Be prepared as you can. Extra set of clothes, wipes, even spray. When traveling I've worn a pair of depends the comfy no show kind... life saver. I even have brought toilet paper.

Just be you. Don't be afraid to discuss with your nurse or doctor about options, imodium even 1.

Take care. Stay hydrated be well.

      1. this is totally me. Preparation is key. I'm thankful that I now have to carry less. I used to carry spare clothes everywhere, but now it's just spare stoma supplies and I have a little bag with tissues, wet wipes, Imodium, dog poop bags (for an emergency empty), spray before you go, an oral rehydration solution sachet, and finally, an empty bottle in case I'm pancaking!

    3. does your stool have any pus, tar, mucous, blood in it?
what is your diet, both food and drink? I know everyone asks you that, but humor me.
