Has anyone experienced hair loss while being on Humira or Stelara?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's this past April and have been on Humira for 6 months now. So far it has been ok, just some diahrrea at times. About two two months ago, I noticed a lot of hair falling out and my hair is now thinner. Has anyone else experienced this? My doctor is going to switch me to Stelara, in hopes that will help. Does anyone have any information about side effects from drugs of hair thinning?

  1. Hi ,

I want to start by saying that I'm so sorry for what you're currently going through. Hair is such a big part of our identities and from experience, I know that losing it is so difficult. While I couldn't find anything stating that hair loss or thinning is directly related to Humira or Stelara specifically, you are absolutely not alone in experiencing these side effects. I wanted to share a couple of blog posts with you on this topic. The first one talks about hair thinning and how the author dealt with it throughout different stages. I'm passing this article on simply because I felt you may be able to relate:

I really hope this helps, but please don't ever hesitate to reach out with more questions. We're always here for you.

    1. Thank you Crystal for that information. It was very helpful. I will give the mask a try. Thanks again.

      1. Sorry for what you are going through. I did have some hair loss with Cimzia, which is similar to Humira etc. but not sure if from medicine or just normal aging/genetics. Thanks!

        Best,
        Matt

        1. ,

Oh yes, you are definitely not alone in this one. I had major, major hair loss. Literally chunks of hair would come out while I would wash it, and it was so alarming. I did the hair mask that Crystal sent you the link for. It was a life saver. You have to be consistent though. At least once a week minimum. I saw amazing results! Good luck.
