IBD/IBS and lack of benefit from Ozempic (semaglutide)

My doctor was really surprised that the highest dose of Ozempic, a type 2 diabetes med and the latest weight loss fad, didn't help with my blood sugar or weight loss after six months. I also never experienced any side effects aside from constipation.

For context, I have both type 2 diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease, including leaky gut.

I did some digging and found a few small studies suggesting GLP-1 receptor dysfunction might be why it's not working for me. This needs more research though.

I am posting this should others experience the lack of benefit from these diabetic and weight loss medications.

As for me, I don't know how to proceed, This is incredibly discouragin.

  1. Thank you for sharing your findings. I do hope you and your doctors find a treatment plan that works for you soon. I know how frustrating and discouraging it is to try a medication and not get results. Just thinking out loud here, perhaps look into seeing another doctor to get a fresh perspective on your case? Also even trying a different type of doctor like a Naturopathic Medical Doctor? I started seeing a NMD in addition to my GI and I am so glad I did. -Elizabeth (team member)
