Possible Crohns noise

Hi
I was just looking for some advice, I have not been diagnosed with crohns but I have a feeling it’s what I may have.
I’m 37 and when I was 21 I was diagnosed with IBS because I suffered with chronic diarrhea I would have to run to the toilet it was horrendous. When I had my son at 24 it swapped and I suffered with chronic constipation, I could go nearly 2 weeks without opening by bowels, a few years later I had a sigmoidoscopy and just told I have a lazy bowel.
For years I have just suffered and I can’t go without laxatives, bleeding, bloated, pain, excess mucus ( and I mean a lot) etc

Anyway fast forward Iv been suffering with a bad back and hip pain, irratic periods and low iron (5 yrs Iv had an iron deficiency) each time they have said it’s just my periods, yet it never goes up.
Last year due to an ultrasound and my ovary being enlarged my gp asked me to a to have a ca125 blood test, she also asked how my bowels was, I told her and said but this is normal for me I have ibs. I said the noises I’m having though are so loud, the noises started in May last year, Anyway she requested a stool test.
Within 2 days she rang back and said my levels was so high I needed an urgent colonoscopy which I had within 10 days.
I had the colonoscopy and all was fine but he said I’m going to request a small bowel MRI.

A gastroenterologist rang me and said if it was crohns I would be really poorly but it hit me Iv had these symptoms so long,
With 2 kids and 2 jobs It’s all just become the norm for me it’s been that long.

chronic fatigue,
Chronic constipation
low iron, ferritin
no energy,
sleepless nights,
Sweats
mouth ulcers
Pain/ cramps
Tender tummy above my belly button and lower right.
Full really quick and severe bloating
Lots of mucus
Bleeding
Tiny stools
Dark smelly stools
Urgency to go And nothing
Diarrhea

Anyway to get to my point the stomach pains I’m getting lately are worse.
I have these loud noises, they last all day and keep me awake, they are so loud and are getting worse.
The only way I can describe it is like a haunted house with creeky pipes, sometimes it’s bubbling, swooshing but they are so embarrassing.
A client before said it sounded like there was a cat purring in the room 😳
Did any of you experience these noises?? They are driving me insane 😭

My MRI on the small bowel is Sunday and I really hope I get an answer.

Sorry for the long post. I appreciate any answers xx

  1. I am no doctor, but from my personal experience it absolutely sounds like you have Crohn's. I would try your hardest to see a different GI and get a second opinion by a GI experience with Crohn's. Not all GI's are. You deserve the correct treatment so you can begin to improve. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I am so sorry that you had that experience with the GI doctor. My heart goes out to you. Unfortunately, even doctors, do not always grasp what it is to go through this. Our community gets it. I truly hope you are able to get answers and find some relief soon. We are here for you and sending so many hugs your way. Kindly, Jessica, IBD Team Member

    2. Please keep us posted with how things go. Ask about iron infusions. It is common for anyone with IBD not to absorb iron well so we get infusion treatments. Sending strength your way, Elizabeth (team member)

  2. i get a noise, always in the same spot. Lower left colon near pelvic bone. Its like bubbly, gassy type, swoosh noise. Doesn't happen often.

    1. oh this is Constantly and so loud, I’m lay in bed and it’s going wild 😭 I’m worried I may have a stricture as Iv read these type of noises are a sighn. Thank you for your reply

  3. Hi , I'm sorry you're going through this and for so long! I am curious if you were able to check in with the GI about the levels in your stool that were concerning? I'm wondering what they think was causing those levels if the colonoscopy looks clear. That being said, I've heard in some cases Crohn's doesn't show up on a colonoscopy (especially if it's in a place unreachable by the scope) so maybe they are still considering it Crohn's? Please keep us updated on what you hear! I hope you get some answers soon. -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    1. Just wondering, did they take any biopsies when they did the scope?

I can confirm that noises can definitely happen in people with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. That said, I'm sure it can probably happen in healthy people too!

Glad they sent you for small bowel MRI. Let us know the result!
