Lymphocytic Colitis

Hello, looking for some info. I am a 25 y/o female with a history of gastro issues. I have GERD, mild gastritis, chronic constipation/fissures. This year I have been having stomach cramping which I never have so my gastro decided to do a colonoscopy. My colon looked healthy w/o abnormalities. I got my biopsies back and it says there is a mild increase of lymphocytes suggestive of lymphocytic colitis (LC). The earliest my follow up is isn't for another several weeks so I thought I'd pop a question about this here if anyone has had this diagnosis as I have never heard of subtypes of IBD. With LC seems like I would have watery diarrhea but I never have that, I am quite the opposite. I do have colon cramps and spasms though. Are my stomach pains because of the LC even though I do not have diarrhea? Thanks!

  1. Hi ! Thanks for reaching out. Everyone is different when it comes to what symptoms are experienced, which makes this condition (and all of those under the IBD umbrella) so confusing and frustrating. Although COMMON symptoms may be watery diarrhea, it's could be possible to have the opposite symptom. Such as with Crohn's and colitis, symptoms are 'commonly' diarrhea, but many people experience constipation. Sometimes constipation can be a side effect of medications, as well. Keep us updated on how you're doing and what you find out! I hope you find some answers soon. Warmly, Pam (team member)

    1. I can definitely confirm that IBD often affects people differently. Even when it's the same type of inflammation, in the same area! Everything about IBD can be very individual; from foods people can tolerate to what treatments help get them into remission!
I hope the appointment sheds more light for you. Keep us updated!
