Negative colonoscopy but still blood in stool?

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a negative endoscopy and colonoscopy with no signs of ibd, fissures, polyps etc but I still get occasional blood in my stools and have done for a while now. I do suffer from abdominal pain which is generalised around and affects my stomach. Can I still have IBD? Potentially of the smaller bowels? And should I still pursue this?

  1. Thank you for your question, @Lazo. That's good news that you had a negative colonoscopy and endoscopy! Have you discussed IBS with your gastroenterologist? There are many reasons you can have blood in your stool occasionally (including hemorrhoids) so I would still check in with your care team to make sure nothing is being missed, as just because it isn't IBD doesn't mean there isn't something going on that can be easily fixed.
Let us know how you progress!

    1. Hi Julie, thank you for your reply! They have, but would IBS cause occasional small amounts of blood in stool? I’ve had a faecal cal protection test that came back positive as well as one negative one. It also seems to affect my stomach and cause pain in that region. It feels as if it affects me far too much to just be IBS. Things like mebeverine don’t seem to work at all either.

    2. that's interesting. I would definitely follow up with your GI (or get a second opinion) just to be sure nothing was missed. Keep us posted!
