Colonoscopy Results

Hi, I've been having stomach issue for quite some time now. I had a ultrasound that showed my colon on the upper section was inflamed and she said I have Colitis. That was about 6 weeks ago. I had a Colononoscopy yesterday, and he said there are no signs of inflamation. Should I of had an Endoscopy instead and has anyone here been told they dont have Colitis but it turned out eventually they did. I'm feeling very frustrated and very confused. I still have the symptoms so nothings changed since the ultrasound.

  1. , how confusing and understandably frustrating. I know some people here can relate to what you're going through. We actually have 2 threads here where people discuss the topic "Is it possible to have IBD and not show up on colonoscopy", some of these responses might be helpful! https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/is-it-possible-to-have-ibd-and-not-show-up-on-colonoscopy and https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/ibd-symptoms-colonoscopy-looks-normal As for diagnostic tests, there is no single test that can be used to diagnose inflammatory bowel disease. Here's an article that explains the different tests: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/diagnostic-tests-and-procedures Be sure to bring these up to your doctor and insist on further testing. You know your body better than anyone else .. keep fighting until you get some answers! Keep us updated on how you're doing.. we're all here for you. Sending well wishes - Pam (team member)

    1. Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated. I went back for another Colonoscopy as I said I wanted a biopsy and he found 2 polyps. He also did an endoscopy and found inflammation in my stomach so that's being looked at. Most definitely, people should push for more investigation if they don't feel they are comfortable with the Doctors opinion.

      1. Thanks for the update I'm glad you went back and found some answers. I hope you start to feel better soon! Stay strong - Pam (team member)

    2. Firstly, it's important to realise that there's a difference between colitis and ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a form of IBD, whereas colitis is simply inflammation in the colon, which can be caused by a number of different things, but is not an ongoing chronic condition.
Because Colitis is only located in the colon, an endoscopy wouldn't have been an use.
In answer to your final question, yes, misdiagnosis, and it taking a very long time to get diagnosed, is actually a very common story in the community.
