New here! Crohns and Nausea/Entyvio

Hi everyone. I'm new here. I'm in a weird phase of my crohns treatment and I'm curious to know some feedback. I'm not as technical as I see others post so forgive me.

For years I have been on Remicade and for the longest time it really was a miracle drug for me. I was in remission with very little symptoms.

Finally that seemed to wear off more and more and my doctor and I decided to try me with Entyvio.

On Entyvio I have definitely noticed more symptoms, particularly nausea. There were many foods I used to eat on Remicade that I now am extremely weary off. Cooked vegetables used to be totally fine and now they seem to set me off.

I have noticed around once a week or once every two weeks I've had nausea where I feel like I am clearing out anything that has been stuck inside me. After this I feel fine until it happens again, usually one or two weeks later. Sometimes there is some diarrhea after this but usually it goes away soon after. What is strange to me is that nausea has been main symptom which was not the case before this.

I'm going to see my doctor in a few weeks for bloodwork and to discuss a new line of treatment but I'd love any feedback or opinions on what I should do?

  1. Ask to be tested for SIBO and H. Pylori. I find when I get nauseas it is because of one of those two. Or perhaps Entyvio is causing this? If it doesn't improve with time, maybe look into trying another med? So sorry you are going through this. I know it can be so frustrating. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Hi @dwebb1141, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It sounds really difficult and frustrating, especially because you were doing so well on the Remicade. I wanted to ask a few clarifying questions!

      1. Is the nausea all the time or is it worse right after you get an infusion?

      2. Are you also vomiting or just feeling the sensation of nausea?

Thanks for sharing. I really hope you get some answers soon.

      1. Thank you both for the responses, I really appreciate it. I am going to speak to my doctor about SIBO/H Pylori. I feel like a lot of the symptoms I looked up online match with H Pylori in particular. Especially the boating, pressure and nausea.

Re. questions 1. Nausea has not been in my mind tied to infusion. It is not all the time, usually once a week or once every two weeks. Sometimes I feel it is related to food but then other times food I consider safe/bland have been meals around it.

        2. It is usually followed by vomiting and sometimes diarrhea. Usually I will feel a bit bloated before sometimes my stomach will swell a bit.

        1. You are so welcome. That's what we are here for. Yea, I think you should get tested for SIBO and H Pylori. I had these same symptoms and those were the culprit for me. Good luck! -Elizabeth (team member)

        2. Hi there, thank you for answering my questions! I definitely agree with that you need to speak with the doctor and perhaps ask for some testing, alongside whatever they recommend. My only addition would be to be SURE that you mention the vomiting and diarrhea. In my experience, many doctors won't take nausea seriously, but they'll pay attention when you mention vomiting and/or diarrhea. Please don't leave that detail out, since it's vital for them to know how much you're suffering! Please also keep us updated about how things go. -Eshani (IBD Team Member)
