New to IBD

Hi there,
I am very new to IBD and so happy I found this forum.

I have been sick for the past 3 weeks, it started off as a throat infection and UTI that lasted for 10 days. I then took antibiotics to help with the UTI and started getting incredibly painful cramps in my stomach and persistent in my right abdomen.

I had to go to the emergency department and they did tests and then diagnosed me with an ovarian cyst.
The pain continued and I went to see a gynaecologist who then said I have no cyst, but she doesn't know why I have this pain.

She suggested an MRI and CT scan but it costs so much and so I decided to wait and see if the pain will go away after menstruation and it is still here and getting so painful again.

I have also been having dairee for the past month and I feel so fatigued and I have no energy. My depression has also gotten worse and I have been having panic attacks and feel like I want to go insane.

I have made an appointment with the gastroentoroligist after reading about IBD as I think I might have IBD.

I have been struggling with IBS for years and it runs in my family.

Can anyone recommend if I should do the MRI, will this be able to give me a proper diagnosis?

Thank you for this group, I hope I can find what is wrong with me.

  1. I'm really sorry that you are experiencing this pain. If your doctor recommended MRI and CT imaging I would do it to see if something shows up. Typically a colonoscopy is called for, in order to rule out Crohn's. I personally was diagnosed after a colonoscopy and blood work.

How does your diet look like? To help with the diarrhea try to avoid fiber. Also a heating pad will help with the pain along with CBD oil if you have.

I really hope you get relief soon and get some answers so you can focus on proper treatment. Please keep us posted, we are always here to support.

    1. Oh, thanks for clarifying about the imaging, I understand now. I would wait to see what the Gastroenterologist suggests then.

And I understand about diet changing with stress. And moving is super stressful. Maybe try keeping a food diary to see if there is any correlation with pain and food. Just a thought.

Keep us posted with how things go at your appointment. I hope you get answers soon.
