Potential IBD found during colonoscopy

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well first and foremost.

Like others, I’ve recently started a journey after years of not being sure what’s wrong which has finally made progress recently. I have had chronic diarrhoea with dark/tarry blood, fatigue and generally just feeling like my stomach isn’t quite right - not easy to explain I know!

Anyway, I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago and the report mentions that there was a ‘normal study till the terminal ilium’ and had biopsies taken. I’ve got the report with photos and it does look like the TI has a weird looking abscess looking thing on it. Frustratingly, the dr didn’t say much apart from they want to see what the biopsy says but that it could be something along them lines.

I think I’m struggling on the not knowing first and foremost specifically but also the what do I do now in the meantime. I’m not sure if I should eat or drink specific things or to avoid them. As there technically isn’t a diagnosis yet, do I continue as normal?

Also, in terms of the colonoscopy, I thought the dr would say more afterwards but he didn’t mention a huge amount. Is this normal?

Cheers

  1. Sorry to hear you are not 100% and are having symptoms but maybe the doctor didn't see anything concerning or maybe something is going on further up your small intestine.
Do you find that eating or drinking certain things cause problems? If so, maybe start keeping a food/drink diary. Other than that I would continue as normal unless something different happens.

    1. what is your diet? details, specifically what do you eat

      1. mesalamine enemas will most probably remove the blood, tar, mucous, etc. from your stool....STOP all fiber the week of enemas, give your bowels a rest/vacation....HINT, use gravity to pull the enema up into your intestines. If you wake up in the morning after evening enema and you don't need to have a BM, then use another enema. If you are unable to keep an enema in, don't worry, keep trying. Its no rush, lie in bed for a while till your body adjusts, then get up. A good 30 minutes before getting up. Unless you fell the uge to purge while you are lying down, then by all means, run for the border. But keep trying the enema, eventually it will stay in,

but after that you will need to adjust your diet profoundly for the rest of your life....flareups are just a sign that you never got fully healed....these IBD issues lurk in the shadows and they fool you into thinking your are all better now

if the enemas work, then also add 1-2 coconut milk yogurts per day, a sip a day from inner-eco live liquid probiotic unless stool goes all liquid than take a few days off of inner-eco, drink coconut water (natural inflammatory)

You must find your tsunami food that sets your gut in motion to be damaged by all sorts of foods, FOR me and a friend I helped whose UC is also now in remission since 18'...RED MEAT(cows) was the main culprit...don't worry, plenty of other animals out there, WF's has ground turkey thigh.

eliminate nuts, raw veggies, most fruits, dairy, sugary drinks
berries should be ok, lots of homemade broths, AVACADOES, diced peaches, soft scrambled eggs

        1. how are things going? What did the biopsy results say?
In my experience, not being well communicated with following tests is normal, although I really wish it wasn't! I've had to learn to advocate for myself and push for information over the years!
I'm in the UK by the way. I imagine it's different in different places, as the standard of care changes from hospital to hospital here!
