Question - 1st stool test next week

Hi. I am having 1st stool test with my new primary. No diagnosis yet.

At moment, stools are fairly tame (none of usual tar, pus, etc). 5 mos of diarrhea switched to constipation 3 wks ago.

Will the test still detect what's going on, as if I was in flare?

My primary is ordering test (no gastro at this time). What should she be looking for besides calprotecin (sp?)

Any other advice? Thx so much!

  1. Hi , my physician usually looks for bacterial infections along side the Calprotectin! The Calproc may give a good idea of if there is inflammation in the gut as well, so I think that's a great test to have done. Ultimately, my GI recommends a colonoscopy to really get a good look, but that may a step further down the line for you. -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    1. Thank you! I realize a Colonosopy is needed too. I've had a few of them but not for 2 yrs now. Appreciate the input on stool test. Blessings
