Rinvoq vs Yeljanz

Hello All,

My gastro Dr was going to move me over to Rinvoq after continued flares with my UC. Well I find out that my insurance does not cover Rinvoq. This might be because the drug is newer and it's a fight I can probably have if needed at some point. My Dr pivoted me to Xeljanz. Has anyone had experience with either of the two medicines. My Dr said they are both JAK inhibitors and pretty similar. Any inputs or opinions out there? Would love any insight to experiences any of you have had. Thanks

  1. Hi , while I have not been on JAK inhibitors, I know others of us have, like ! I believe she is doing well on Xeljanz.

Here is an article about JAK inhibitors as well, in case it is helpful: https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/treatment/medications/jak-inhibitors -Eshani (IBD Team Member)

    1. I was put on Xeljanz after failing mostly all other biologics. Xeljanz gave me my life back. It has been the only medicine that has improved my symptoms tremendously. I felt a difference within days of taking it and I have tried Remicade, Humira, Stelara, Entyvio, Azathioprine, Mesalamine to name a few. I love that it is a pill too. So no infusions or injections. I have zero side effects as well. I have been so happy with this medication. -Elizabeth (team member)

      1. Thank you for your response! My Dr and I settled on Rinvoq and I start this week. I believe the meds are similar and I am excited to make progress and see improvement! I wish you all the best and continued progress in dealing with this brutal affliction called UC.

        1. Keep us posted. I wish you the best and I hope this medication offers you the relief you deserve. Sending strength your way, and thank you for your kind words. Big hugs, Elizabeth (team member)
