Severe anal/rectal pain

I'm under investigation for this as had pain for 2 years now. Recently had colonoscopy and although she commented that I have a haemorrhoid externally she didn't see anything inside. Several months ago I had a flexible sig, MRI and investigation under GA but nothing identified. The pain at it's worst is a good 8. The outside feels like stinging and razor blades but the inside throbs. Anyone else ever experienced this?

  1. Hello, , and thanks for reaching out. Are you experience anal and rectal pain? There can definitely be various reasons to be experiencing pain in this area, so, if you haven't already, it's a good idea to reach out to your doctor. In the meantime, I'm linking a couple of articles here with some information on what could be causing the pain including anal fissures, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/complications/anal-fissure, as well as fistulas, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/complications/fistula. This article about perianal disease also has some information on what can cause rectal pain, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/symptoms/perianal-disease. Hopefully some of our community members here can also chime in and share their experiences with you. Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hi . On top of the excellent information from Christine, I want to share with you this Forum discussion on "Ulcer and excruciating pain at bottom:" https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/forums/ulcer-and-excruciating-pain-at-bottom-cant-cope. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    2. oh dear, a pain at an 8 sounds pretty miserable, not to mention the stinging, razor blades, and throbbing. I know it can be incredibly frustrating and discouraging when doctors say they don't see anything or everything seems okay when the symptoms are clearly indicating that things are NOT okay. Hopefully some of our community members here can share their experiences with you. You mention that things are under investigation now, does that mean a doctor is working with you to do more testing to figure out how to address this pain (and hopefully figure out where it's coming from)? You deserve relief! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
